Ryanair expands its EES hotspot warning from 7 airports to 15

On 15 July 2026 Ryanair expanded its EES hotspot warning from the seven airports it named on 4 July to 15, adding Lisbon, Madrid, Lanzarote, Milan Malpensa, Verona, Berlin, Cologne, Frankfurt Hahn and Budapest. It cited insufficient kiosks and staffing, and urged Brussels to extend EES flex-mode flexibility into early 2027.

Copenhagen's documented peak has been revised up from 70 minutes to 180 minutes: NPR reported on 11 July 2026 that a 3-hour queue formed in June 2026 after all kiosks went offline and staff switched to manual passport processing. Copenhagen has announced more kiosks and an expanded non-Schengen passport control area, expected online in autumn 2026.

Budapest is flagged as particularly vulnerable because it takes a steady flow of non-Schengen arrivals with little recovery time between waves. A traveller reported a 3h35m arrival wait there on 8 May 2026, with British Airways holding a departure 40 minutes for connecting passengers.
