Palma raises border police headcount ~52%, average EES wait eases to 30 minutes

Palma de Mallorca (PMI) has raised border police headcount by roughly 52%, and the average wait at passport control has eased to about 30 minutes, with peaks around 70 minutes, according to Airport Border Post chief José Ignacio Hernández as of 27 July 2026.

That is a real improvement on the up-to-3-hour queues documented at Palma earlier in the rollout, when AENA added 10 temporary kiosks and dedicated UK-only lanes. Ryanair named Palma on 4 July 2026 among Europe's seven worst EES airports; on this evidence it is no longer in that condition, though the worst documented queue on record for the airport remains 180 minutes.

Treat the 30-minute average as an average, not a promise. Arrivals bunch: several non-Schengen flights landing together still produce the long tail.
